Jessie’s friends always told her that her mom’s food was the best, so Jessie did what young professionals do: she started a food blog highlighting the traditional Korean dishes handed down from her mother. Join Jessie in her small but efficient kitchen in Seoul to learn to cook some of her favorite Korean dishes. You will learn to cook two to three dishes and you will then enjoy them along with other dishes that have been prepared in advance. Jessie cooks using her mother’s homemade gochujang (a pungent condiment made from fermented soybeans, red chili, and glutinous rice) and deonjang (a thick, soy bean paste), which are essential Korean ingredients that are rarely made from scratch these days. The meal will be served on beautiful ceramic dishes that her mother makes. Your lesson and meal might include dishes such as bulgogi (stir-fried, thinly sliced beef with grated Asian pear, ginger, garlic, and soy sauce), her mother's homemade kimchi, japchae (glass noodles) or homemade doenjang jjigae (tofu stew). Finish your meal with seasonal fruits (perhaps grown on her uncle’s farm) and fruit tea. Please note that Jessie is only available to host on weekends.
